The First European Pressurized Reactor in Taishan 1 Jointly Inaugurated by the Heads of China and France

On Jan 9, French President Emmanuel Macron met with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during his state visit to China, and the two leaders witnessed the inauguration of the first European Pressurized Reactor in Taishan 1, a nuclear project participated by GPEC and GEDI, subsidiaries of Energy China.
The Taishan nuclear power plant is located at Chixi Town, Taishan, Guangdong province. It is the largest single-unit installed capacity in the world and the world’s first functioning example of the European reactor. The project adopts the advanced third-generation European pressurized water reactor (EPR) technology. Double-layer safety shells and four security design programs are adopted to ensure a higher security level after taking severe accident prevention and mitigation measures into full consideration.
